Don't mistake someone running as an Independent for someone who is a moderate. It means that the Independent has a steadfast view on each issue. This view may or may not be similar to a specific party's view. The difference between someone running as a major political party, is that they have to use that party's platform and talking points. On the other hand, I can stand on an issue, because it's my thought which is what our country was founded on. Now that you’ve looked through my platform, you might be wondering where my views actually land on the political spectrum. Think of it this way: if you blend environmental conservation with classical liberalism and a libertarian edge along with reasonable conservatism, you start to see how I stand on issues. I am a true independent anomaly—a multi-perspective mayoral candidate who believes we have to pull the absolute best ideas from every "side" to fix what’s broken in this city. I don't answer to a rigid party boss, an ideological platform, or ward leaders; I answer exclusively to you, the voter. Don't mistake independence for fence-sitting—it’s not about a wishy-washy, timely-wobbly "maybe" mentality. The Independent has the conviction to make a firm, decisive call on each issue and sticking to it, no matter which side of the aisle it lands on.

I, Daniel L. Curcio, am officially announcing running as an Independent because the entrenched political machine has spent decades treating Philadelphia like a private piggy bank for career insiders while the working families of our neighborhoods pay the price. I’m not turning my back on anyone, and for good or for ill, I love everyone who has formed me into the person I am today. For decades, the party in power has asked you to hold your nose and vote down a rigged ballot, trapping us in an endless cycle of rising taxes, open-air drug markets, failing schools, and bureaucratic gridlock. Change in Philadelphia will never come from the same machine that broke it in the first place, and I refuse to bow down to ward bosses, special interests, or partisan dogma. True leadership is not about playing party politics or carving people up into demographic boxes for votes—it is about common sense, merit, neighborhood safety, and absolute accountability to the people to flip it in a new direction. By refusing to accept a single cent in campaign donations, I answer exclusively to you, the citizens of this city. Voting independent isn't a protest vote; it is a complete salvaging of your power, ensuring that City Hall finally works for the hard-working people who live here, work here and build here.

There’s also a difference between my personal stances and my public policies—while my private beliefs guide how I live my own life, my policies are built strictly on liberty and common sense, meaning I will never use City Hall to force my personal preferences onto your front steps or front porch, because that would be unfair. A party loyalist stays trapped in a fixed script and they’re not allowed to divert from it. My independence gives me the total freedom to work with anyone willing to make Philadelphia great again; it’s really that simple. Even if we only agree on three or four key issues, getting those things accomplished with me, beats following someone who just repeats scripted talking points.

Personally, I don’t drink, I don’t do drugs, I don’t partake, and I don’t smoke. I also believe in personal freedom and individual autonomy, which is why I won't waste time or government resources working to make moderate adult choices like vaping or cannabis illegal. When used responsibly by adults who maintain their clear-headed focus rather than living in a constant haze, unless medically necessary, these substances are a matter of personal choice unlike addiction. To me, addiction is the absolute devastation caused by destructive activities like uncontrolled gambling, heavy alcoholism, and the poisoned street drugs flooding our city with fentanyl. As I’ve already established regarding our unhoused population, this remains my overall, uncompromising position on addiction: true leadership means refusing to enable self-destruction and focusing municipal enforcement where it actually matters—crushing the lethal fentanyl trade, stopping predatory cartels, and protecting Philadelphians from the substances that ruin lives, rather than playing nanny state over personal habits.

Classical liberals, sensible moderates, and commonsense conservatives all see the spaghetti stick on the wall, and the people of Philadelphia had enough of divisive, cultural engineering being forced down our throats. This is my ten point platform on what woke means, and we, the commonsense majority aren’t pretending it’s anything else. When we talk about rejecting this radical agenda, we are standing up against ten common-sense, 80/20 issues that impact our daily lives: first, pushing biological men into women’s sports and private spaces; second, weaponizing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion to replace individual merit with bureaucratic quotas; third, substituting basic academic standards in our schools with ideological identity experiments; fourth, promoting sanctuary city policies that prioritize unlawful offenders over tax-paying residents; fifth, replacing classical economic common sense with climate mandates that spike utility bills; sixth, enforcing soft-on-crime policies that coddle repeat offenders while locking down law-abiding neighborhoods; seventh, pushing heavy-handed government mandates that dictate how small businesses operate; eighth, rewriting traditional history to make everyday Philadelphians feel guilty about their heritage by White Democratic Socialists; ninth, replacing individual personal responsibility with systemic victimhood culture; and tenth, allowing unelected bureaucrats to dictate speech, behavior, and moral norms under the threat of public cancellation. These aren't partisan talking points—they are everyday insults to working-class normalcy, and our administration is drawing a hard line against every single one of them, every single time.

I’m not a person who swings in the wind; I am solid on every single issue. I’m someone who’s seen the best and the worst of all sides and that’s why I’m not coming to this with any agenda, but what I see is the most logical direction of the city. This website and platform demonstrates most of my thoughts—the liberal ones, the conservative ones, and the middle of the road ones. Because I am so deeply passionate about the Declaration of Independence, I must declare an Independent Platform. I’m not appealing to any political party because honestly, it isn’t important to me, and I couldn’t care less who you’re affiliated with. I do know this though. If our current mayor is in power for a second term, and if we continue to elect the same people as city council members, you can kiss this city goodbye. Don’t come back, don’t look back, and I pray for all of us who will go down with the ship. This isn’t fearmongering; it’s simply the truth.

If we’re successful at winning, instead of one voice speaking for an entire community, each Philadelphian will speak for themselves in a very transparent and fair way, which I can promise just because I have something up my sleeve. This way, I won’t be deciding on civil matters alone behind closed doors. To ensure our leaders never lose touch with Philadelphians once they're elected, we are launching an interactive, secure municipal online questionnaire, which I call, “The People’s Portal”. Think of it as a secure, city-wide survey app where every resident can log in and directly vote on major civic decisions, especially on things where I may be on the fence on. From deciding community projects to figuring out where historical landmarks like the Frank Rizzo statue will go, I will lock arms with our neighborhoods and address every issue in full without spin. Once the people have spoken through our digital portal, I will vote right in line with their consensus—even on the rare occasions I might personally disagree. To ensure absolute ballot integrity and prevent outsiders from rigging our local decisions, voting on the portal will require an active local Wi-Fi connection, working just like a secure geo-fenced employee clock-in to verify that every single vote cast is locked strictly inside Philadelphia’s city limits. This proposed "People's Portal" functions only as a secure, city-run, advisory tooldesigned to gauge verified public consensus on localized community issues that people want to put their opinions into. It does not change local laws. It's simply a transparent mechanism for direct public feedback so the administration can align municipal decisions with the clear will of neighborhood residents. It operates within the executive boundaries of the mayor's office to inform administrative decisions; it is entirely non-binding, does not enact or alter civil law, and operates in full compliance with the Philadelphia Home Rule Charter.

When our administration delivers a safer city and a financial surplus, we’ll return that wealth directly to you by slashing the city wage tax, expanding property tax protections, completely rebuilding our local infrastructure, abolishing the crushing Business Income and Receipts Tax to unleash local commerce, ending the predatory parking tax gouging our drivers, wiping out municipal utility surcharges so your electric and gas bills drop like a stone, and flooding our neighborhoods with direct savings that put hard-earned cash right back into the pockets of the families who built this city. To make good on that promise, I will also reduce property taxes by slashing municipal assessment burdens on working homeowners, expanding senior and long-term resident tax caps, reallocating budget surpluses straight back to neighborhood property relief, and leveraging new corporate revenue streams so we can lower your bills without cutting a single essential city service. This isn't about political reparations—it is direct restitution for decades of elite uniparty pillaging by a ruling class that grew rich while your neighborhoods starved, forcing the political establishment to steal the wealth they extracted from our taxpayers and return it to the people who built this city. Things will be cheap again!

Philadelphia is the City of Brotherly Love, but for me, that isn't just a slogan—it is my daily life. For years, I have had the privilege of serving as the direct care worker for my little brother. If elected mayor, he won't just be someone I consider my brother; he will become the “First Brother” of Philadelphia, bringing the full scope of disability and real lived experience of caregiving directly into City Hall. No politician that I know of has one of the greater stories ever told, a comeback that no one ever predicted. You give up your entire life to take care of someone else, a stranger no less, because politicians are too power hungry and would step on the least to get ahead for their own agenda. This city isn’t about that, and this platform is about looking out for each other and overlooking identity. Those “isms” and “phobias” I was writing about earlier shouldn’t be addressed by City Hall. It is our job, the job of us as Philadelphians who are decent human beings, to come together against government overreach, social experiments, runaway crime and out of control taxes. Together, we will honor our city's promise by rebuilding accessible, compassionate neighborhoods that leave no one behind.

“Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness” happens when we secure our blocks, strengthen curfews of outlaws, walk into stores that don’t feel like aisle-after-aisle vending machines, keep the city’s hands off our private property, strip away the crushing wage taxes that take money from working families, and enforce law and order so people can run their own businesses without fear of a teen takeover for smash and grabs which endangers all of us. For decades, City Hall has pulled back into secret committee rooms, cutting backroom deals out of sight while regular Philadelphians foot the bill. That ends with me. We are bringing an unfiltered standard of transparency to Philadelphia by tearing down those closed doors and putting access back in the hands of the people. We’ll mandate live, high-definition video streaming for every single municipal meeting, budget negotiation, and daily executive briefing, letting the cameras roll uncut so you can watch every decision as it happens. No secret votes, no backroom promises, and no sanitized political spin. By pairing live, open-door government meetings with an easy-to-read online dashboard tracking every penny of city spending in real time, we ensure City Hall answers directly to you.
